Boardwalk & Trails Opening – November 12, 2011

The boardwalk and trails were officially opened on Saturday, November 12. The event kicked off with music provided by Donner Pass. After the morning program and ribbon cutting, lunch was provided and tours of the coke ovens began.

Speakers for the program included West Blocton Mayor Jesse Reese, Marty Everse, former Director of the Cahaba Trace Commission, Nisa Miranda with the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development, Rob Grant, Recreation Programs Director with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Myrtle Jones of the West Blocton Town Council, Charles Farnetti, a descendant of a coke ovens construction stone mason, Dr. Jack Bergstresser, an archaeologist with Red Mountain Park and Robert Praytor, who performed a portrayal of historical figure, Truman Aldrich. Charles L. Allen, Park Board Chairman presided over the program.
